As you drive west out of Edinburgh your driver-guide will introduce you to Scotland’s capital city, before heading towards Scotland’s largest city: Glasgow. Here, we will visit one of Scotland’s fantastic distilleries, Clydeside*. Here you can learn the process of how they create the perfect dram and immerse yourself in their dockside story, brimming with fascinating tales about Glasgow’s history in the industrial heyday of the Queen’s Dock and the birth of the whisky industry. Following the tour, you can taste a couple of drams too! If whisky is not your thing, you can visit the nearby Riverside Museum; it is a hyper-modern museum with collections of historic vehicles and state-of-the-art interactive displays. Next you journey to Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, home of the Highland rogue Rob Roy. Visit the beautiful loch side village of Balmaha where you can take a short but steep hike up to Craigie Fort to enjoy stunning views of the loch, or you can enjoy the bonnie banks on flat ground. The day continues through Stirlingshire, our guide will bring to life the turbulent times of William Wallace – dramatised in the film Braveheart – and explain his link to the countryside you’re passing through. We’ll stop at the beautiful city of Stirling for about two hours. This gives you ample time to explore the stunning castle* or stroll through the beautiful and ancient streets that surround it. Then return to Edinburgh, passing by the impressive Kelpies.
